By Daniel Binns

DOZENS of building tools were stolen from five workmen's vans in the space of just a few hours in Waltham Abbey on Saturday (March 20).

The five separate thefts occurred across the area, with vehicles parked in streets and private driveways both being hit.

Police believe the vans were deliberately targeted by a gang, and have urged workmen to be vigilant amid concerns they may strike again.

Epping Forest District Crime Reduction Officer Tony Ellis said: "Anyone that has tools which they can't risk losing should not leave them in vehicles.

"While it can be a pain, it is best to remove them every time just to be on the safe side."

Anyone who has any information about the thefts is urged to contact Essex Police on 0300 333 4444.
