AN Epping street was evacuated for an hour and a half this afternoon after en explosive device was discovered.
Police and the Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal were seen rushing to Theydon Place, off Hemnall Street at about 5.15pm, after what Essex Police described an "an incendiary device" was found at a resident's home.
Neighbour Lisa Saggers, who made cups of tea for Theydon Place residents while they waited to return to their homes, said: "I came home and there were three police cars, an ambulance and a bomb disposal van there.
"There was quite a good neighbourly spirit, though. Everyone stood and chatted."
The device was removed by the bomb disposal squad.

The householder has visited local residents to apologise for any disruption. It turns out the "device" was an empty case which had been empty since WW2 when it had been disarmed after falling on his father's car.
The police activated a standard procedure which was what caused the fuss. One appreciates the issues but an empty shell case surely looks, well - empty!
