LIFE on the open waves beckons for a High Beach man who has just passed the first phase of his naval officer training.
Mike Winch, 26, from Church Road, was watched by his proud parents Mike and Sue and his partner Rosie Withall at the passing-out parade in Dartmouth, Devon.
Sub-Lieutenant Winch, who is originally from Halifax, Canada, joined the Royal Navy as an engineer in 2008 and was selected for officer training less than three years later.
He has now begun the next phase of his training on HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
