CHILDREN donned their chef’s hats and put their flipping skills to the test at a pancake race this afternoon (February 21).
The Shrove Tuesday race down Waltham Abbey’s Sun Street drew crowds of spectators and was organised by the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership (WATP) in support of the Waltham Abbey Loves Food festival.
Ben Schooling, 3, won the under 5s race and his mother, Angie Schooling, 35, of Roundhills, Waltham Abbey, said: “he was over the moon and took his little trophy in to nursery to show it off this afternoon.”
Event organiser Kate Towerzey, who is a WATP committee member, said: “The weather held up and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.
“Some of the very young kids did not really know what it was all for but the older ones were really focused.
“They were very intent on holding the pancakes in the pan and it was quite funny seeing them do that.
“These community events are really important. We are thinking of expanding next year and invited local restaurants along to have cooking competitions outside.”
