NORTH WEALD: Police arrest three following village crimewave

THREE men were arrested in a clampdown on antisocial behaviour, motoring offences and vandalism in North Weald, said an Essex Police spokesman.

In the last two weeks police have stepped up patrols in the area after vandals caused thousands of pounds of damage scrawling graffiti over buildings, including the town hall in the High Road, and railway carriages in Station Road.

There had also been reports of anti-social-behaviour from teenagers speeding through the village on quad bikes and of vehicles parked in the High Road obstructing the view of pedestrians using a crossing.

On Thursday, February 16, a 19-year-old man from North Weald was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage in Pike Way and bailed until April 5.

In the investigation in to motorcycling offences police seized a man’s motorbike and reported him for investigation for not having a driving license.

Another rider was given a £60 fixed penalty notice for having a bald tyre.

On February 11, during a stop and search operation, a 39-year-old man from Waltham Cross arrested in the High Road and charged with drink driving.

He is due to appear in Chelmsford Magistrates Court on February 24.

On February 21, a 27-year-old man from the Ongar area was charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Eleven fixed penalty tickets were issued for parking offences in the High Road and one driver was given a penalty notice for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
