Traders at the market have seen a rapid decline in customers in recent times, leading to fears that it could cease to exist in a couple of years' time.
According to a stallholder, who wished to remain anonymous, the market’s lack of popularity is due to the emergence of pounds shops and 99p stores which seem to be the alternative.
The trader has noticed the significant drop in business over the last few years and can’t see the market being able to cope for too much longer.
When asked what they expect to happen to Market Square they said: “Give it a couple of years and we will be a car park or houses.”
