Events to mark Olympics countdown

GREENWICH is holding events tomorrow to mark the landmark of five years to go until the 2012 London Olympics.

From 1pm, the bandstand field at Greenwich Park will be filled with sports for youngsters to try including cricket, fencing, football training from Charlton Athletic, mini tennis, horse riding and more.

The festival will run from 1pm to 6pm and is open to young people aged 11 to 19 of all sporting abilities.

You can arrive any time during the afternoon to join a range of team and individual sports.

Most of the sports will provide for people with disabilities.

Also, from 9.30am to 12noon, the Waterfront Leisure Centre in High Road, Woolwich, will host a range of free swimming activities.

Youngsters aged between eight and 12 can take part and meet past and present Olympians including swimmer Mark Foster.
