Why has it become so unfashionable for car drivers to use their indicators? Everywhere I travel, I see motorists too lazy or simply far too cool to signal their intention when changing lanes or making other manoeuvres.

At high speed on motorways it is particularly stupid and dangerous. But it’s perhaps most infuriating of all at roundabouts. Waiting to pull out, you have to judge the traffic, allowing for the fact that drivers may or may not bother to indicate when they are turning off.

Try negotiating the Wake Arms roundabout in rush hour and you will see exactly what I mean. While on this subject, I also question why some drivers use their hazard warning lights to say thank you.

It’s the driving equivalent of a smiley face at the end of a text or email. Now, call me old-fashioned, call me whatever you like within reason, but I thought the hazard lights were for emergency use only.

Whatever happened to a friendly wave of the hand?
