Croydon Harriers young athletes teams swept the board at West Ewell when they won both of their categories in the last East Surrey League event of the 2002/03 season.

The under-13s' two-mile race was won by Claudius Ricketts in 13min 27sec. The youngest squad member was Dan Hall who took eighth. Just 10 seconds later G Chrome led the B team in ninth with 15.41.

On the day the A team scored eight points, followed by Crawley AC A 20 and Croydon B who took third spot with 28.

Overall league positions: Croydon A with maximum 48 match points, Dorking A 32, Hercules A 30, Croydon B 24, Crawley A 11 and others trailing behind.

The under-15 and under-17 race saw U17 Robbie Powell forcing the pace right from the start, cruising home in a fast 12.07 for the two mile course. Powell also won the league's award for the best U15 or U17 runner of the season with 48 points.

Croydon's senior team had a disappointing end to a good season when holidays, injuries and sickness prevented their best athletes from taking part. New second claim member, Ray Marriot (M40), was the best for Croydon taking third in 22.55 behind two class runners in A Moses of Reigate Priory, first home in a sharp 21.43 and second Paul Haywood (Boxhill Racers) 22.25. Croydon's second finisher was Dave Warren (M40), in 28th timed at 26.24. The team's 89 points got them sixth team place.

Final League positions: Striders of Croydon 39, equal second: Ep-som & Ewell A and Boxhill Racers 38 each, Croydon Harriers A 36, Hercules Wimbledon A 33, Crawley AC A 32, equal seventh: Dork-ing & Mole Valley A, Hercules Wimbledon B and Collingwood AC A 15 each.
