JOBS are to be created at Low Mill Business Park in Ulverston early next year after the sale of two more plots were secured.

It means only one plot remains to be sold to complete the first phase of the South Lakeland District Council-owned business park.

Estates surveyor for the council, Peter Knapton, said it was under offer and he was hopeful the deal for the remaining one-and-a-half acre plot would be finalised soon.

The two plots have been sold to electronics manufacturer, Bender UK, which is relocating from Barrow, and architectural blacksmith, Chris Brammall, currently based at Graythwaite, near Newby Bridge.

Both companies plan to be up-and-running on the Ulverston site early next year and are hoping to increase the number of people they employ.

Mr Brammall currently employs two people but is planning to expand when he relocates to Ulverston.

"I am thinking of taking on another two people in the near future and then maybe another two when I move into the new premises.

It could be more, I will just have to see how business goes."

Mr Brammall, whose work includes the sculpture on The Gill, in Ulverston, and the large weather vane on Walney Island, said he was hoping to start work on the new building soon.

"I think we will move on to the site in January or February next year.

I have decided to move as I have very small facilities where I am based now.

"I chose Ulverston as it is a really nice place and the town is improving all the time."

John Murray, managing director of Bender UK, based at Trinity Enterprise Centre in Barrow, said: "We employ six people at the moment.

We are not planning to employ more immediately but hopefully will in due course.

We are relocating to Ulverston hopefully early next year as it will give us more office space."

The other two plots on the site have already been bought by Welfare State International in Ulverston and Accurite, which is relocating from Dalton early next year.

It is hoped even more jobs will be created on the site if SLDC goes ahead with phase two of the development.

Last week the council announced it hoped to buy 4.6 hectares of land next to the business park.

If the council's cabinet gives the go-ahead, it could create an extra ten factory sites next year.
