PLANS to carry more passengers on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) by increasing the length of the trains have been given the thumbs-up.
The DLR wants to increase the number of cars from four to six on trains between Bank and Lewisham to help enable it to cope with the increasing number of passengers.
Lewisham Council has approved the £115m plans, which would see platforms extended at Lewisham, Elverson Road and Deptford stations.
The DLR currently carries 43 million passengers per year, but with redevelopment on the Isle of Dogs, demand is expected to rise to 60 million by 2006.
