THE spectators were the losers as Middlesex opted for the certainty of the draw above the outside chance of a win in their top-of-the-table Frizzell County Championship Division Two game against Essex at Southgate.
Those who came to the final day on Sunday hoping for a declaration and run chase were left bitterly disappointed as Middlesex skipper Andrew Strauss batted on until tea. Essex ate ice creams in a drinks break!

Scores: Middlesex 538 and 426-4 declared. Essex 441 and 53-1. Middlesex 12 points, Essex 11 points.
