THE CHANCE to walk through the 17th century garden of a Knight and Lady from Chiswick will be available next month, as part of a scheme to raise money for an international charity.

The grounds of Eyham House, on Chiswick Mall, owned by Sir Alan and Lady Munro, will be open to visitors on Sunday June 8th, as part of the British Red Cross Open Garden Scheme.

The walled garden surrounds the impressive 17th century house, and has an 18th century barn that was once used as stables for the Fullers Brewery. A rose garden bordering the River Thames will also be open.

A spokesperson for the international aid agency said the location was ideal for a day out: Chiswick Mall is a Thameside conservation area with historic houses. Hogarth's tomb is in the nearby St Nicholas churchyard so visitors will have plenty to see and do on the day.''

The garden will be open from 2pm to 5.30pm. Admission costs £2 for adults and free for children. There will also be a stall selling refreshment, plant specimens and conserves.

Last year over 150 enthusiasts visited the gardens raising around £500 to help people in crisis all over the world.

British Red Cross Open Gardens was established 60-years-ago and has some well-known supporters including gardening celebrity and author Alan Titchmarsh, who commented: Open Gardens offer a rare opportunity to explore the secrets of hidden and private gardens not usually open to the public.''
