Hendon 2 Canvey Island 2

Canvey Island win 6-4 on aggregate

Bryco Cup semi-final (second leg)

Hendon manager Dave Anderson was less than pleased with his side as they went out of the Bryco Cup on Tuesday, despite a battling display from his players.

A Ricci Crace goal after five minutes gave the Dons the perfect start. But two expertly-taken goals from Canvey's Lee Boylan sealed the tie for the Essex side and ended Hendon's cup dream.

Anderson said: "We wanted an early goal and we got it. But I was very disappointed to concede the two goals we did. We talked all about set pieces before the game."

The home crowd were cheered by the Greens' fine start which saw Lee Endersby play a fine ball through to the onrushing Crace who made no mistake from just inside the box.

Hendon's inability to defend set-pieces cost them dear, as Boylan rose unchallenged to plant a looping header past David Hook eight minutes later.

When the predatory Boylan grabbed his second 11 minutes later, the cup-tie looked over.

But Kevin Dobinson's push on Paul Yates from a Lee Endersby corner gave Hendon a lifeline and Martin Randall duly converted the resultant penalty with ease.

Despite having much the better of the chances in the second half, Hendon could not find the two goals needed to take the tie into extra-time. An Endersby cross shaved the outside of the post, Eugene Ofori's shot swerved wide of the target and Hendon were denied a penalty when Yates appeared to be brought down by Craig Davidson.

HENDON: Hook, Hollingdale (Gallagher 85), Duncan, Midson, Cooper, Forbes, Crace, Yates, Randall (Ofori 64), Bates (Alves 41), Endersby. Subs not used: Burgess, Woolner.
