February 19, 2001 17:55: A RETIRED businessman who discovered his wife's body in their garage, told an inquest she had been suffering from depression and was using medication.
George Studholme, of Beachenlea Lane, Swanley, found the body of his wife, Daphne Studholme, 73, in the couple's car, Croydon Coroner's Court heard.
Mr Studholme, who was married for 53 years, said he had been worried about his wife's eagerness for him to go and play golf that day and had returned early when he made the tragic discovery.
He said: "She insisted I go play golf, and said she would be fine."
Det Sgt Conway Lapping told deputy coroner John Sampson a piece of vacuum cleaner hose had been attached to the car's exhaust pipe and was fed through the boot into the car.
He added that insurance documents and a note had been left on the living room table.
In the note, Mrs Studholme wrote she was sorry for what she had done.
Pathologist Professor Sir Anthony Risdon gave the cause of death as carbon monoxide poisoning. Mr Sampson recorded a verdict of suicide.
