February 19, 2001 15:25: MORE than £1 million is expected to be spent on repairs to county roads after heavy rains.

So far Kent County Council has spent around £820,000 on emergency clearance of roads and public rights of way following weeks of heavy downpours and is urging the Government to speed up its process of refunding the money.

KCC's strategic planning committee chairman Sarah Hohler said: "The county council wants the funding speeded up so that we can be reimbursed for these emergency road works as soon as possible.

"The work is already taking a sizeable chunk out of the budget and we don't know what the final winter emergency bill will be."
