February 20, 2001 10:26: AN AEROPLANE equipped with a thermal imaging camera has highlighted where heat is being wasted in the borough.

Bexley Council used the plane to capture the whole borough on film and the pictures show heat escaping from windows and doors and seeping through roofs and walls of every home.

Now the council is offering residents a free thermal image of their home, so they can see for themselves how much heat they are wasting.

The pilot scheme also aims to cut carbon dioxide emissions which add to global warming.

Discounted rates have been negotiated by Bexley with local installers who have received even further reductions from London Electricity.

Through the scheme, loft insulation could cost £130, saving between £50 and £160 depending on the size of your home, and cavity wall insulation £123.

People can also save £125 on the price of a new condensing boiler. Savings on fuel bills could be as much as £140 a year, as well as the benefits to the environment.

People aged over 60 or who are receiving means tested benefit can get free loft and cavity wall insulation.

To get a free thermal image of your house or to find out more about discounted insulation call 020 8683 6646.
