Police in Watford are appealing for the return of a number of offensive weapons which they believe may have been bought at a car boot sale and market.

Police are conducting enquiries into the sale of expandable batons at Bovingdon market on Saturday, April 26, and the sale of a number of different items at a car boot sale in Red Lion Lane, Nash Mills, on Sunday, April 27.

As well as the batons, a variety of martial arts equipment including death stars, swords and concealed knives, were sold.

Chief Inspector Andrew Ewing, from the western area said: "People who purchased these items may be unaware that many of them are illegal to possess in a public place, and some are illegal to possess per se.

"It is in the interests of everyone's safety that these dangerous items are taken off our streets. I would urge anyone who has recently purchased items like these at the market or the car boot sale to bring them into their local police station so that we can offer advice as to their legality.

"If, subsequently, anyone decides that they no longer want to keep the items, we will dispose of them. Although many of these items are illegal, we will offer an 'amnesty' to anyone who returns them by May 25."

Anyone who attended the boot sale or market and saw any of these items on sale, is asked to contact Sergeant Phil Brady at Hemel Hempstead police station on 01442 271028.
