Major roadworks were set to cause months of traffic disruption around Watford Junction station from yesterday (Monday, April 7).

The work in Station Road, part of Clarendon Road and part of Woodford Road is expected to last five months and will involve modification of the existing roundabout. When the project is complete, traffic flow on to the roundabout from Woodford Road and Clarendon Road will be controlled by lights.

Station Road will be widened between Woodford Road and Veralum Passage and the existing bus lane in Station Road will be moved from the nearside of the kerb to the offside.

Temporary lane closures will be in force during the works period and, as The Watford Observer went to press, Hertfordshire Highways, which is carrying out the work for Hertfordshire County Council, was waiting for authorisation from Watford Council to carry out part of the work at night in order to minimise traffic gridlock.

However, Hertfordshire County Council has warned motorists to be prepared for traffic delays in the Watford Junction and Station Road area and advised drivers to use alternative routes whenever possible.
