Millwall Football Club has been given nearly £80,000 by the Football Foundation, the UK's lar-gest sports charity, to continue its work in the community.
The first programme organised by the Millwall's football in the community scheme, in partnership with JSS Pinnacle, a housing management group, will develop and deliver a comprehensive football and edu- cation programme across JSS Pinnacle estates in Lewisham.
This will expand the existing scheme, which currently delivers six coaching sessions a week on housing estates in the Sydenham and Forest Hill areas. The Foundation has awarded the club a £79,300 grant to continue its excellent work.
The scheme will initially begin with "drop in" football coaching sessions and, as momentum builds, will expand to help establish new teams, leagues and cup competitions.
Involvement by residents is a key aim, with local people playing a major role in developing the game themselves by attending training days to enable them to learn new skills, including coaching, running teams, first aid and refereeing.
