THE Wild West Country Fair, in Broughton-in-Furness, at the weekend has been hailed a success with the tourist information centre receiving a record-breaking number of visitors.
The event was staged in the Kepplewray Centre and Broughton School on Saturday and, despite heavy downpours in the afternoon, which forced organisers to cancel the outdoor activities, the village was buzzing with hundreds of visitors.
The tourist information centre in the village dealt with inquiries from 278 people during the day.
This beats the current record of 230 people in one day.
The fair, organised by the Broughton 2000+ group, which was set up in the wake of the foot-and-mouth crises to ensure the survival of the village, replaced the annual Millom and Broughton Agricultural Show.
The next event in Broughton, organised by the group, is a rural market in the Victory Hall on Sunday, September 9, from 11am until 4pm.
