PEOPLE with sight problems have a treat in store when they pick up the next edition of the Wycombe's Talking Newspaper it comes complete with recordings of prize-winning poems read and written by imaginative schoolchildren.

Pupils from Burford School, Marlow, made the recordings about how it feels to be visually impaired after being challenged by Doug Nower, of the High Wycombe Lions Club, who wanted to encourage children to think about disabilities.

The school was also visited by Bob Gerhardt, who is blind and the chairman of Wycombe's Talking Newspaper, which is based in Hampden Road, High Wycombe.

He gave pupils a talk about the sight problems suffered by people around the world and he also introduced them to his guide dog, Faldo.

Mr Gerhardt said: "I have been surprised by the imagination shown by the children and I am sure our listeners will be very touched to hear the readings."

The prize-winning authors were eight-year-olds James Evans, Harry Brown, Abbie Lawrence and Tom Packer and seven-year-old Shiffali Razdan.

Children also raised £360 during a school mufti day which paid for Braille books for visually impaired children in Africa.
