The Mayor of London has got behind anti-aircraft groups after finding more than 400,000 Londoners experience a serious aeroplane noise problem.
Ken Livingstone used the draft publication of the Ambient Noise Strategy to reiterate his opposition to night flights at Heathrow and argue a third runway should not be built.
Launched at City Hall, the paper is open for public consultation until June 13 when a final document will be produced.
HACAN ClearSkies member Michael Latham, of Hazel Grove, Orpington, said: "I am very pleased Ken Livingstone has put his weight behind this very serious issue.
"Noise is not the only problem. Heathrow is the most
dangerous airport in Europe as it is the only one where
almost all the flights go right over the city centre.
"In places such as Beckenham, the planes come in very low indeed. If there was a crash there could be serious consequences."
The Mayor of London is required by the Government to produce an Ambient Noise Strategy.
