HUNDREDS of schoolgirls sang and danced their hearts out at a show in memory of a beloved teacher who died tragically.

Sarah Webber, 15, daughter of former Bullers Wood teacher, Kathy, joined a talented cast for the emotional song and dance extravaganza.

After months of planning and rehearsals Kathy's Show culminated in a rollercoaster production of music taken from Broadway, the West End and Men in Black star Will Smith.

One of the high points was an energetic and colourful performance of Revelations, a gospel dance piece created by Alvin Ailey in the 1960s and one of Kathy's favourites.

Youngsters from nearby Red Hill Primary also took part in the show, which ran for three nights last week.

Widower Jon Webber said: "Kathy would have been so proud of the girls. It was a fantastic production.

"She loved Bullers Wood, it was her life.

"I was so very proud of Sarah for getting up and performing as well as she did."

Kathy was killed in a car crash in Michigan, in the USA, during a family holiday last summer. She was 45.

A "champion of the underdog", she was a committed Christian and National Union of Teachers representative who campaigned tirelessly for human rights charity Amnesty International.

Before the performance, which was mostly choreographed by dance teacher Elaine Tapp, headteacher Kathleen Clarke paid tribute to a "dedicated and energetic" colleague.

Kathy moved to Britain aged eight from Atlanta, Georgia, but never lost her American accent and was described by all who knew her as "larger than life".

She is survived by Jon, Sarah and sons, Sam, 18, and Jack, 10.
