I take a keen interest in your letters page and was intrigued at some of the views expressed last week.

To Samuel Dunmoodie: How much local history do you know? The Tea Hut has been controversial for at least 30 years. It got flattened by an Artic in the late 70s and there was much brouhaha then about its re-instatement as the council wished to deny it planning permission. And who on earth are these "rich people" or "aristocracy" he refers to? I think he is either living in the wrong century, or is he just jealous of others.

To Carol Baker: You are absolutely right. We have the same problem in Eltham. The company which Connex has sub-contracted car parks to is an evil money-making machine. They changed all the rules, and did not tell anyone, in order to be able to issue "breach of contract" notices to all and sundry and make money from previously law-abiding car park users.

To Len Duvall: You made our lives a misery around here for years. I was pleased to see you leave the council and go onto the GLA where I thought you may be able to do less damage. How you have the bare- faced cheek to lecture us about police numbers I do not know. Stop being so political and address the problems without trying to "score a point". You are an elected representative. Start behaving like one and take responsibility for the borough you used to represent. Parts of Greenwich turned into a cesspit when under your control.

To Name and Address Supplied: I couldn't agree with you more! Unruly youths whose parents disown them are a blight on our society.

And finally to Diane Rye: Thank you. Eltham is a very nice place to live. There is no rampant racism, it is a nice place to shop, and I would not live anywhere else either. It would have been better, however, if Greenwich Council had lived up to their plans for the town centre in the 70s and not let Bexleyheath and Bromley steal the shoppers, and still to this day starve it of money.
