RE: THE company director who was fined for selling fake designer gear and conning the public into buying the counterfeit goods (News Shopper, July 17). I wonder if the public are being conned?
I suspect people know full well these goods are not genuine. Counterfeit goods are often good value for the price charged whereas the genuine goods are truly overpriced.
Peer pressure on children to have branded goods is tremendous and this pressure is transmitted to their parents.
I suspect many mums and dads have leapt at the chance to buy counterfeit goods. My grandson is currently pressurising his mum to buy him expensive brand name t-shirts and refuses to accept cheaper ones of the same quality.
What is the bigger crime? Meeting a genuine need brought about by the over advertising or advertising over-priced goods aimed at gullible children. Perhaps your readers would like to comment.
