HANWORTH VILLA 2 BRENTFORD NEW INN 0

A rejuvenated New Inn gave league leaders Hanworth the fright of their lives with a superb display, only to run into a goalkeeper in unbeatable form backed up by the meanest defence in the league.

For all but the first five minutes of the first half the Brentford side dominated, forcing 14 corners in 45 minutes.

In one period seven successive corners were awarded to the visitors, with the luckless Marlon Clement twice hitting the upright.

Toby Harrington looked certain to put them ahead, only for Terry Buss to miraculously clear his lines with the keeper beaten.

The turning point came in the 70th minute. Clement failed to tackle Mark Peake, whose cross was headed home by Paul Reed.

New Inn should have equalised when a Gerry Logos free-kick crashed down off the underside of the bar and was again cleared off the line.

Then in the 80th minute, with John Cook out of goal, defender Horne kicked a long ball goalwards. Cook raced back to hook the ball out from under his bar, but after consulting a linesman the referee awarded a goal.

Brentford New Inn: Cook, Stower, Wade (Capt), Wilson, Ansah, Boateng, White, Logos, Scott, Harrington, Clement. Subs: Williams, Orr.

New Inn are away this Saturday to Willesden Constantine at Alperton Arena.
