THE remains of a woman have been discovered by walkers at a popular woodland beauty spot.

Ramblers made the gruesome discovery in Copse Wood, Ruislip, at about 3pm on Sunday.

Police have revealed the body was found clothed and was not hidden or covered over.

Investigating officers believe the unidentified woman could have lain there undiscovered for as long as two months.

Resident Dave Peters, who lives in South Rusilip, often walks through the area.

He told the Times: "Those woods are usually very busy and a very popular place for dog walkers.

"I'm amazed to think that a body could have lain undiscovered for such a long time. It's shocking."

DCI Gordon Green, of the Met's Serious Crime Group, is leading the investigation into the find which is being treated as suspicious.

The victim is believed to have been wearing either khaki or beige colour trousers and a denim jacket and boots.

Police are appealing for information and are making inquires in a bid to identify the woman.

They are also checking through lists of missing people from the area.

A police spokesperson said: "The forensic teams have been there for some time and are still there checking the scene and making sure they cover every angle so that nothing is missed."

A post-mortem was due to be carried out on the body yesterday.

DCI Gordon Green added: "We need the help of the public to find out who this woman is and what has happened to her.

"If anyone saw anything suspicious in Copse Wood over the past few months or if anyone has a missing friend or relative matching the description given out please call the incident room."
