MACE-BEARER Derek Powell has retired from Bromley Council after 16 years' service. Mr Powell, who served 17 mayors in his time at almost 5,000 functions, was given a standing ovation by councillors at the council's annual meeting where he performed one of his last civic duties.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the job and met some very nice people over the years" said Mr Powell, 65, who lives in Luxted Road, Downe.
