CAR dealership Darlingtons, the longest established Renault main dealer in Hertfordshire and Essex, is to take on an MG Rover franchise at a new £3.5m 2.2-acre development in Riverway, Harlow.

The new project will create 13 jobs.

Dealer principal David Woods said: "We are proud to have been elected Renault dealers of excellence for four years out of the past five and believe we're the only dealer in the UK to have achieved this feat.

"We have an excellent reputation locally for customer service achieved through our long-serving staff, many with over 20 years service. We hope to apply this to our new dealership with the addition of the MG Rover franchise."

The new dealership, opened specifically to house the new franchise, will serve Harlow, Hertford and Bishop's Stortford.

The MG Rover facilities will include a nine-car showroom, seven-bay workshop and Class VII MoT bay, as well as a display area with room for more than 100 used cars.

Thirty staff are employed at the current premises, plus seven at the Rover service unit that has been running since the start of the year. The workforce will increase to 50 at the new dealership.

New and used MG and Rover models will be sold from temporary offices at the new site this month, with the new showroom expected to be open in September.
