Computer chips worth more than £6 million were stolen from a British Airways cargo area near Heathrow Airport yesterday.

Police say two men stole an American Airlines flatbed truck containing the chips, which were en route to Miami, about 11.15am and dumped the vehicle nearby.

About £1.5 million worth of the Pentium chip consignment was left in the truck, and police are also linking a white Renault van, found in Feltham, to the robbery.

No description of the two men has been provided

The incident does not have security implications for the airport, authorities say.

The American Airlines vehicle had been left unattended for a short while and police are reviewing security footage from CCTV cameras.
