A waste paper collection scheme, which saw more than 100 tonnes of newspapers and magazines collected in South Lakeland in recent months, is set to be extended.
South Lakeland District Council began kerbside waste paper collection from properties in Kendal, Ulverston and Grange on April 8 this year.
Since then more than 80 per cent of those included in the scheme have been participating regularly - helping to cut down the amount of paper which is buried in land fill sites each week.
In a bid to improve and potentially extend the service to more homes, SLDC is about to reorganise its rounds.
SLDC waste management officer Sharon Lenney said: "We will ensure the process takes place with the minimal disruption and inconvenience.
"Residents will be given plenty of notice and provided with a new calendar."
In the meantime, home owners who find their recycling box too large to manage alone have been invited to contact Ms Lenney, who will arrange a visit to discus the possibility of a smaller container which is more lightweight with a sturdy handle.
Residents have also been reminded a back door collection is not possible because of time pressure on rounds and all boxes must be clearly visible from the roadside for recycling crew to be aware they need emptying.
