A KENDAL man was rescued from the River Kent on Tuesday afternoon, June 18, after he walked out onto the weir near Stramongate Bridge.

Firefighters wearing life jackets and using ladders and a safety line reached the 27-year-old man and led him to safety.

Station Officer Callum Graham from Kendal fire station said the man was "shaken-up" by the incident and treated by paramedics at the scene before being collected by a family member.

Police said the man was reported missing by his mother shortly before he was spotted at the so-called Salmon Trap at around 5pm.

Cumbria police spokesman Mike Smith said: "A police officer spoke to him afterwards to advise him about the dangers of wandering onto the weir."
