Squirrels can see better in Bowness and Windermere than many people thanks to the winter lights decorating the area's trees, a Windermere councillor has said. The seasonal lighting was all very well but people were left stumbling around because of "black areas" in the middle of the town with no lighting, Coun John Walters told a meeting of Windermere Parish Council on Monday.

The council agreed to press Cumbria County Council and South Lakeland District Council for a response to its previous complaints about poor lighting."We're lighting the tree tops for the squirrels but people can't see where they're going," commented Coun Walters after the meeting.
