Normal service was resumed this week for Enfield commuters after the rail network fell into chaos in the wake of the Potters Bar train crash.

Last week travellers using the Hertford Loop line, which takes in Enfield Chase, Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill and Crews Hill, had to use alternative transport to reach their destinations.

The track was re-opened on Monday, allowing trains to run through Potters Bar with speed restrictions and rail operators have now resumed the normal timetable. A spokeswoman for West Anglia Great Northern (WAGN), the company which operates trains through Enfield, said: "We put on a couple of services late on Sunday night and re-introduced our normal timetable on Monday morning." WAGN catered for passengers during the last week by putting on special bus services, allowing passengers with train tickets to use local bus routes and providing information on alternative routes.

The WAGN spokeswoman said: "We have had some very positive feedback from our customers on the bus and train services we provided.

"It is good that they were so understanding."

There have been no further developments in the search for what caused the fatal crash earlier this month since it was announced last week that there was a fault with the points.

Seven people died and many were injured in the crash, some treated at Enfield's Chase Farm Hospital.
