A lobbying group that has called for improvements to the Central Line since the early 1980s has been disbanded owing to considerable improvements to the line.

After 19 years of campaigning, the passengers' committee formed by Bob Prichard thinks it has now run out of things to say.

The line recently recorded a weekday peak performance of 98.8 per cent of trains running on time. Mr Prichard said: "The new timetable is a big improvement.

"A lot of things we were asking for in the 1980s have come about and brought about enhanced performance. It has taken a long time, but it is certainly worth it.

"There are still a number of issues, but it is certainly significantly better.

"It does not seem fair to continue when we have seen so much improvement."

Bob Bayman, the London Underground service delivery manager who has often come into conflict with Mr Prichard's group, said: "Bob and I have had our differences, but he has always fought his corner as someone who knew what he was talking about.

"Our job now is to maintain the improved quality of service."
