The bi-annual wash and brush up of the Diana fountain in Bushy Park started this week. Local people had complained to the Richmond and Twickenham Times recently that the base of the fountain was covered in black and green slime and in need of a good clean.

Assistant Park manager Alan Swann said no complaints had been received at the park about the state of the fountain but he was happy to reveal that a clean up started this week.

He said: "On Wednesday work started on putting up the scaffolding around the fountain.

This will be completed by Friday (30th) and after that the cleaning work which is done every two years will be carried out by contractors working for the Royal Parks Agency. Given six to eight weeks after that it will be clean again."
