BEACONSFIELD MP Dominic Grieve may claim he always goes the extra mile for his constituents.

But on Saturday he'll be putting his trainers where his mouth is as he goes under starter's orders for a 28-mile hike raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Mr Grieve told the Star almost £7,000 has been pledged for south Bucks homeless people's charity Padstones as a result of pre-publicity for the walk.

He said: "The response to the appeal has been quite fantastic. I am immensely grateful to the large number of people who have given or pledged money to Padstones and I am very much looking forward to carrying out this 28-mile walk to help raise this money. The sore feet will be worthwhile".

Mr Grieve will start out from the House of Commons at 6.30am and is expected to take about nine-and-a-half hours to get to the parish church in Burnham. The walk will take him along London's streets to Brentford, and then along the Grand Union Canal to Iver.

From there the walk runs through Langley Park and Black Park to Stoke Poges and Farnham Common and down through Burnham Beeches to Burnham.

Mr Grieve is being joined by his brother-in-law, Tim Hutton, and members of the Burnham Rotary Club, who will be walking a relay of five-mile stretches of the route to keep him company.

Padstones provides accommodation for young homeless people who are at risk and have often had to leave their own families through abuse or other domestic problems.

The provision includes 24-hour care and support at its three units, two in Burnham and one in High Wycombe and flats in High Wycombe and Burnham for those residents who are ready to start living independently.

The Star's parent company, Gannett, donated £5,000 to the charity last Christmas.
