MANY villagers will be sad to hear of the death of former village midwife, Nurse Sleator. She lived in Flackwell Heath for over 20 years, mostly in the Nurse's House in Oakland Way. When she retired she moved back to her native Ireland where she died peacefully last weekend. One villager can remember in January 1963 when Nurse Sleator walked in deep snow between three mothers, one in Oakland Way, one in Southfield Road and the third in Sedgmoor Road. Her boots were stuffed with newspaper and dried by the boiler in each house.

FOOTBALL and following their good run in the FA Cup last season, Flackwell Heath Football Club found themselves getting world-wide publicity with a mention in the Programme for the FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Southampton at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff on Saturday, May 17. The article charted the Club's progress in the cup from the first round on August 24 to their achievement in reaching the 4th qualifying round for the first time in their 96 year history.
