PLANS to revamp Wooburn Green's Pavilion are back on track after groups sat down to discuss a compromise.

Controversial plans for a £1 million redevelopment of the park's sports facilities sparked outrage among residents before being thrown out by Wooburn Parish Council in mid-November.

But last Tuesday's parish council meeting saw representatives from Something a Little Smaller, an action group opposing original plans, and Wooburn Park Sports Association, begin talks with councillors about how to get new plans off the ground.

Alan Routledge of WPSA said: "We have the opportunity to provide a positive legacy for future generations."

John Kegg of SALSA said the public must have their say in new plans. Chairman Julia Langley was keen to set up a working party to find out what groups want to get involved in the Pavilion's development.

She said: "A working party needs to be set up. Until we investigate that we are going to stand alone and build on our own or we build it in partnership. Until we highlight the needs it is a no-go area."

Cllr Roger Jackson pushed for a building surveyor to be brought in to look at current buildings first.

Cllr John Dalton agreed: "A working party is totally inappropriate at this stage. We need to know what the wishes of the parish users are. We need to have a survey done."

Cllr David Paul: "Understanding other sports needs is an important part of the development in the park."
