A 46-year-old woman found dead in a Radlett hotel room had a history of seizures brought on by years of alcohol abuse West Herts Coroner's Court has heard.

Ms Christine Carlsen from Dallas, Texas, was staying at the Red Lion Hotel in Watling Street, while attending a course organised by her work in November last year.

Ms Carlsen was found dead with her legs hanging off her bed at about 8.30am on Wednesday, November 13, 2002.

Medical reports from a doctor she had seen in America said Ms Carlsen was a chronic alcoholic and recommended she receive psychiatric treatment for alcohol related problem, but she never sought professional help.

Medication found in her room was used to treat an ulcer and later tests showed 16 wraps of white powder were a form of aspirin.

No injuries were found on Ms Carlsen's body, but a medical examiner concluded the lock jaw and blood in the mouth was consistent with having a fit in the night.

Forensic Pathologist Dr Cary, who carried out the post mortem, said there were no signs indicating a fit such as bites to the tongue and lips, and the bladder contained urine.

A toxicology report showed anti depressants were being taken and identified another treatment for nasal sinus pain, but revealed no alcohol in the blood system.

Coroner Mr Edward Thomas, recording death by natural causes, said the rhythm of the heart could have been interrupted by the chronic alcohol abuse.
