Police are hunting two suspects who beat a man during an argument as he walked home in Upper Norwood.
The victim was walking along Biggin Hill when he was approached by the two men.
He argued with the pair and the suspects left the scene but returned within minutes in a car. They jumped out and attacked the man with a large spanner, causing serious head injuries.
A resident who heard the commotion called police who found the victim lying injured in the street.
He was taken to Mayday Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police have described one suspect as an 18-year-old black male, 5ft 10ins, wearing a coloured hooded top and dark bottoms and the other as aged around 20 years, black, with a shaven afro wearing a grey zip-up top and dark bottoms.
The vehicle they used is a blue Volkswagon saloon.
