SEDBERGH Gala Committee apologise for thecancellation of bonfire night on October 31. The cancellation was causedby the inclement weather, turning the People's Hall field into a quagmire.

SEDBERGH and District Community office is still as busy as ever,now being run by John Stanton following in the footsteps of hispredecessor Carol Dawbarn. There are a whole host of activities andservices available in the community office, from a jobs noticeboard,advice on small business grants and social policy. The office is also hometo the History Society which is now in re-decorated and new rooms; theGenesis Project, with its wealth of accessible information and easy to usetouch screen computers; the Citizens Advice Bureau Rural Outreach Project;a teaching Bridge Club and the New Testament Greek course. The office isopen from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. Volunteers are also needed to run the office.

THE Toll Bar ShowCommittee is hosting a dance tomorrow (Saturday) at 8pm, until midnight.Music is being provided by the Blencathra Band and held in the MasonicHall, with all proceeds going to Alzheimer's Disease Support Charities.Tickets £4 from Mrs J. Knowles, on 015396-721686.

THE community ofFirbank is hosting its bonfire night today (Friday) at 6.30pm outside thechurch hall at Firbank. All proceeds are to go towards the church hall'srepair and upkeep. There will be refreshments available and some sideshows, plus the firework display and bonfire.

SEDBERGH School hassome important rugby fixtures this month, starting with Lady MannersSchool, Ullswater College and Giggleswick School tomorrow (Saturday) atSedbergh, kick-off at 2.30pm, on assorted school pitches. The school playshost to two Cumbria Schools sides on November 10, kick-off at 2.30pm.
