MARIE Pattinson, a pupil of John Ruskin School, has won a multi media PC and printer inthe Young (Daily) Telegraph Poetry contest. Her poem will be display in local BTphoneboxes.

ROYAL British Legion rummage sale tonight (6), 7.30pm, in the institute in aid of PoppyAppeal.

OVER 30 children from Coniston Primary School visited the newly restored CharcoalBurner's Hut at Brantwood. Deep in the wooded estate, the hut provided a focus for a fieldstudy trip which began with a cruise to Brantwood on Coniston launch. A charcoal burn wasorganised and pupils were invited to test their creative skills.

THE monthly Military Whist at John Ruskin School, saw the winning team led by MrsWatson of Oxenpark; 2 Mrs Ivison of Finstwaite; 3 Mr J. Todd of Broughton Mills.

LIFELONG Learners Ramble Group, formed with funding from Help the Aged, held its 25thwalk starting at Oxenpark, taking in the Rusland Valley, Ickenthwaite, Rusland Hall,returning via New Close to the Manor Hotel, Oxenpark for a buffet lunch.

AROUND 40 people attended a neighbourhood forum appraisal meeting at the instituteorganised by Diane Whitehead and Debbie Binch. Residents were asked to identify needs fortheir village which County Council officers will assess and report how things can beimproved. Items identified were highways and road issues, buses for locals, environmental,youth issues, water quality, dog fouling and upgrade of the institute facilities anddecoration.
