POLICE were involved in a dramatic car chase on Monday afternoon but were unable to catch thieves who escaped after speeding across the Childwickbury estate.
A Vauxhall Nova was stolen from Drovers Way car park in St Albans just after 12.20pm and police later saw it heading towards St Albans on Redbourn Road.
In a desperate bid to evade his pursuers, the Nova driver headed off-road into the Childwickbury estate, former home of the late film director Stanley Kubrick, before emerging on Harpenden Road.
Electronic gates on the estate were damaged after the stolen car collided with them. Police were eventually forced to give up the chase.
