The gardens of Cherkely Court, the Leatherhead stately home owned by Lord Beaverbrook will be open to the public during the summer months if ambitious plans to transform the property are approved.
Part of the plan is to allow the ground floor of the Victorian listed building to be turned into a museum and library to be visited by appointment only and housing important papers belonging to Lloyd George and Lord Beaverbrook.
The property, close to the Beaverbrook roundabout on the Leatherhead by-pass, is owned by the Beaverbrook Trust which anticipates that up to 50,000 visitors could be attracted to the 150 hectare estate each year.
The proposals are to be considered by Mole Valley councillors at the planning meeting this week.
