WANDERERS midfield ace Darren Currie will put club before beauty and return to training on Monday two months ahead of schedule.

The Blues star will delay an operation on his injured left shoulder until the end of his career to return to the hurly burly of Nationwide League action.

He said: "It looks deformed and that is the way it is going to stay.

"I can either have an operation that screws the bone back down to where it should be or I can let it set like it is and have an operation in the summer or at the end of my career.

"And I've decided to play on.

"I don't want to spend the rest of the season sitting on my backside doing nothing."

He added: "It doesn't look the best. It looks as though I have got a golf ball in my shoulder, but I'll just have to put up with that.

"The bone is sticking up in the 1pm position instead of lying down in the 3pm position like everyone else's does."

Ruby could have the operation in the summer but he has decided against that as well because he doesn't want to miss out on a pre-season training. He will put off surgery until his playing days are over.

Currie got the injury in a training ground accident and was expecting to be out until the New Year.

He said: "I got tackled and fell awkwardly when I lost my footing. I was in a lot of pain. I thought my world was going to end. I was in shock, I felt sick and I was worried about how long I would be out.

"I couldn't do anything for a couple of days and had to have my arm in the sling but not knowing what was happening was the worst thing. It was doing my brain in."

"But I feel a lot happier now that I know I can be back in a couple of weeks."

Currie is now targeting the Port Vale home game on December 14 for his comeback.

He said: "I've come off the painkillers and I'm getting my mobility back."

The news is a massive boost to Wanderers, who are without a game this weekend following their FA Cup first round exit at the hands of Division Two rivals Brentford.

Currie has the ability to unlock defences with a single pass and is capable of turning a match on his own.

And Currie could be joined in the comeback stakes by fellow midfielder Stuart Roberts, who is also on target to face Brian Horton's Valiants.

The Welsh winger sustained ankle ligament damage on his return to the Principality to face league leaders Cardiff City on October 12.

But he has now got a full week's training under his belt and he could even be included in the squad for Wednesday's visit to Division Two highfliers Bristol City in the LDV Vans Trophy third round.
