A 93-YEAR-OLD revealed this week how he was forced to spend £22 on a taxi to get to his appointment at Wycombe Hospital, as letters flooded in supporting our Cure it Now parking campaign.

Ted Witham, of Orchard Park, Holmer Green, contacted Midweek after reading how patients, staff and visitors were finding it almost impossible to park.

Seriously ill patients have been late for vital visits because they cannot secure a space in the Queen Alexandra Road car park.

Midweek has now launched the campaign to raise awareness about lack of parking and make sure it is available for those who really need it and we still need you to show your support.

Ted, who had to go to the hospital for a biopsy for skin cancer on his face, said he decided to pay out the cash for the 20-minute ride to the hospital as he was too worried that he would not be able to find a space.

He added: "I usually still drive everywhere, but I can't walk very far, and the parking is terrible at the hospital."

His wife, Win, 92, said: "We had to pay £12 for a taxi there and £10 for the taxi back. We paid because we knew we could get taken right to the door and wouldn't have to park miles away."

She added: "If we had to go in the big car park, we wouldn't have managed the walk all the way to the entrance, we just wouldn't have made it."

Their daughter, Linda Whittaker, who lives in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, said: "Usually I take my parents to the hospital if either one of them has an appointment, because the parking is so bad, and I can drop them off at the front entrance and then go and park.

"This week I couldn't take them, so I thought it was better that they got a taxi."

She added: "More disabled places are needed at the front. It is ridiculous that there are so few, it means disabled, sick, or elderly people have to walk a long way."
