The first in a series of police kiosks equipped to give out public information 24 hours a day, and also to be used for interviews, will be unveiled in north-east London tomorrow.

Borough Commander Stephen Bloomfield and Lord Toby Harris will officially open the new Metropolitan police kiosk in Wood Green High Road.

A second situated in Tottenham High Road, outside Seven Sisters tube station, will open at the end of the month.

The kiosks will provide support for patrolling officers and can be used for different functions, including open days, and publicity events.

British Transport Police, London Underground, Arriva buses, and community groups will have access to the centres.

Touch screens fitted into the side of the kiosks will provide 24hour information about travel and contact details for public agencies.

Haringey Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Stephen Bloomfield, said the kiosks are being placed in areas where it was important that police increased their accessibility and visibility to the public.

Lord Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority said the new style police kiosks were another way of providing greater police access for the people of Haringey, and will help to create a safer community for everyone.
