CHILDREN planted hundreds of trees in Thamesmead bringing the tally up to more than 2,000 new trees in five schools.
Pupils and teachers planted 900 native trees at Erith's Parkway Primary School, Alsike Road.
More trees were planted at Thamesmead's St John Fisher Primary School, Kale Road; St Thomas a Becket Primary School, Mottisfont Road and Bishop John Robinson Primary School, in Hoveton Road.
Trees were planted earlier in Southlake Primary School, Seacourt Road, starting the Trees for Thamesmead programme. Developed by the Green Gateway Partnership, including leading environmental group Groundwork, it seeks to involve local people in creating a leafy-green environment.
